This is obviously not a definitive list, just my opinion on 10 of the best and most influential Old School extreme metal bands. These bands are the ones that paved the way for all the good crazy metal we have nowadays, and all the material these old school bands put out has stood the test of time and they can all hold their own next to any of the modern day extreme metal bands.

I disagree, I think these are the original extreme metal bands. The shit nowadays of course is much more. extreme, but these guys were the pioneers. I listen to all the crazy shit nowadays as well, my fav prob being Cephalic Carnage, Misery Index, or Aborted. Back in the day though these bands were all extreme metal for their time.
Therions old stuff is extreme death metal like their album Of Darkness check these songs: Surburb to hell and Dark Eternity some real dark and crazy stuff one of my favorite death metal bands!!!!
